Primary Grades Curriculum

Our primary school serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade. One of the core educational beliefs of Holy Family Catholic School is that all students can learn and succeed in a loving environment where expectations are high. Teachers at Holy Family Catholic School understand that children are unique and do not all share the same learning style. Teachers take time to learn the unique strengths and weaknesses of every student and strive to provide a wide variety of educational methods to implement instruction. The school strives to provide a consistently challenging curriculum to benefit all learners within the classroom setting.

Religious Education

The Catholic faith is integrated into all subjects that we teach. All students attend mass on Wednesday mornings at 8:15 am and families are encouraged to attend mass on the weekends. All students are given the opportunity to participate in service projects to learn the importance of serving God and others. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade use Sadlier's We Believe curriculum to learn about our Catholic faith. Grades.Along with our integration of our faith in all subject areas and weekly attendance of school mass, students engage in daily prayer and participate in other religious experiences. The students are helped to examine attitudes and values in order to develop behavior consistent with their faith.  Students learn about human needs, justice, mercy, and peace. They are given opportunities to respond to the needs of others by working together on numerous service activities. Personal, family, local and global concerns are addressed from a Christian perspective. Students are expected to respond to one another with love and a sense of justice.

English and Language Arts

The main focus of the primary grades is to teach students the foundational skills needed to be successful in middle school, high school, and beyond. We use Savvas ReadyGen as our reading and Language Arts curriculum. The curriculum is supplemented by The Wright Source for writing skills and Sadlier Phonics for grades K-2.

Mathematics

During the primary years, a great emphasis is put on the acquisition of basic mathematical skills. By the time students reach the middle grades, they are proficient in all foundational skills and ready for the high order and critical thinking required in the middle grades. Holy Family uses Sadlier Mathematics for kindergarten through grade five curriculum.

Science and Social Studies

Holy Family participates in a nationally accredited STEM curriculum called Project Lead the Way (PLTW). We use Savvas Interactive Science for our science curriculum and MyWorld Interactive for our Social Studies curriculum.
